airshot.
Screenshots, GIFs and videos, from the menu bar.
airshot freezes your screen when you press the shortcut, so you select from a still image. Mark it up, record a GIF or a video, copy text off the screen, and find any capture again in your history. Nothing leaves your Mac unless you upload it.
What it does
The screenshot tool macOS should have shipped with.
Select from a still screen
The screen freezes when you press the shortcut, so menus and hover states stay put. One display or all of them, now or after a short delay.
Windows on a clean background
Point at a window and click. It is captured on its own, with its rounded corners, on a colour you choose or transparent.
GIFs and videos
Record a region, a window or the whole screen. Videos up to 60 fps with sound, GIFs that stay small, and trim before you keep it.
Mark it up
Arrows you can bend, text, numbered steps, highlighter and a live mosaic to hide what shouldn’t be seen.
Copy text off the screen
Drag over text, a QR code or a barcode and it’s on your clipboard. Read on your Mac, never sent anywhere.
Every capture, one shortcut away
Your recent captures in a glass panel. Copy, edit, trim or upload to your own R2 or S3-compatible bucket, and the link is on your clipboard.

Install
- 01Download airshot.dmg, open it and drag airshot into Applications.
- 02Open airshot. macOS blocks it the first time because it isn't notarised by Apple. Go to System Settings Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway. You only do this once: updates arrive inside the app and never ask again.
- 03Take your first screenshot. Allow Screen Recording when asked, then quit and reopen airshot.
